One of my big values in life is animal welfare. I’ve been a vegetarian for nearly 10 years, after seeing a young calf being transported on the back of a truck into the driveway of an abattoir. I can still see it’s pretty face with it’s beautiful big brown eyes, taking in the scenery around it, not knowing what was in stall for it in the next few hours.
In that moment, I decided, along with my now-husband, that we could never eat meat again. How dare I feel so much emotion for this beautiful, innocent animal, and then go and order a beef burger. It just didn’t sit right with me.
That day, we headed to my folk’s house and explained to them that the gammon, turkey and chicken that they’d just purchased for Christmas lunch, was not going to be enjoyed by us.
I’ve since changed all my personal care and beauty products over to brands that are guaranteed not to test their products on animals. I use the Beauty Without Cruelty (BWC) list as my guide.
One day I hope to be able to transition to full veganism, but in the meantime, I’m hoping to do my bit, by creating awareness of and donating proceeds from my Couture Creature shoots to the BWC.
