Do you ever feel like you’re riding the confidence roller coaster? Sometimes your confidence is soaring high in the clouds and you can see for miles around, and other times your stomach gets lodged in your throat as your confidence plummets to the floor? Me too!
In this video, I’m going to share with you, how I’m learning to work with the ups and downs of confidence.
Being a Confidence Crusader has it’s downfalls.
There’s an expectation that because I always talk about women’s confidence, I must always be a confident woman. But the truth is, I’m not. In fact, if I’m really honest, the more I’ve researched and flown the flag for women’s confidence, the more I’ve become aware of my own confidence shortcomings.
I’ve come to realize that confidence is not a constant thing. Sometimes you have it and other times you don’t.
Sometimes you feel like you’re totally rocking at life and other times, you can barely muster the motivation to get out of your pajamas.
What I’ve begun to appreciate is that we can use these waves of confidence to our advantage. It’s the ying and yang of life, the ebb and flow, the two sides to the same coin, and it’s all about how you respond to the current stage you find yourself in.
About a month ago, I found myself at the peak of my most recent high confidence wave – I was thinking well, I was outwardly focussed, I was pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone, I was taking charge and my energy levels were high. I was feeling good and I was taking courageous action steps, I was being productive and I was in creating mode – Creating opportunities, creating products, creating income. What this looked like on a practical level was that I was out interviewing women for my blog. I was being interviewed on the radio. I was presenting talks around the country and I was churning out photo shoots at a rapid pace.
Then came the crest of that confidence wave and it was downhill from there. After being on such I high, I felt the need to rest and recuperate. My energy levels dropped, I slowed down on the creating mode and began consuming – consuming content, reading, listening, observing my thoughts, my attention became more inwardly focused. Instead of being out there and connecting with people, I remained at home behind the computer, catching up on all the admin, clearing out the clutter and finishing outstanding projects. I spent much more time contemplating and meditating and spent more time out in nature. What it looked like on a practical level was, answering all my email, finishing the edits of the interviews and photo shoots and consciously choosing to go for regular runs in the forest.
At first I realized that I was judging this quieter, lower energy time as somehow “bad”. As not as beneficial as the high energy time, and this I noticed that guilt was negatively impacting my confidence. But when I recognized that they are both equals sides of the same coin, I felt my confidence equalize again.
You see, while I was finishing off the projects that had come about from one of my high energy waves, I was grateful that I could quietly complete it while I was on a low energy wave. I found myself feeling grateful for both waves, because I knew that if I was in a high energy state all the time, I’d have all these incomplete projects lying around. And if I was in a low energy state all the time, I’d just sit around contemplating my naval, and wouldn’t be showing up in the world as I am destined to.
It’s all about the Balance
Both high energy state and low energy states are important because when they’re in balance, they equalize your confidence.
So I want to encourage to recognize what state you’re in and ride that wave without judgment. But know that it’s not permanent, the wave is fluid and each state has it’s benefit. You need to arm yourself with awareness of how you’ll use each one to your advantage.
And I guarantee you, with that awareness alone, your confidence will guide you through.
New You November Giveaway!
As I mentioned in the video and in an earlier blog post, I have an exciting gift to encourage a New You in November. At this time of year I often feel drained and tired and both dreading and wishing for the festive season to arrive. But this year, I want November to be the start of the new you! That’s why I’m giving away – YUP! GIVING AWAY my Body, Mind & Soul Confidence guided visualization bundle.
It’s been proven that your subconscious mind cannot discern between imagination and reality. That means, if you feed it stimulus that uplifts, empowers and shifts the way you feel and think about yourself at a mind, body and soul level, then you’ll begin to re-program the way you perceive yourself.
Commit to listening to at least one of these audio tracks every day for 30 days, and begin to notice how you’re able to bring those imagine feelings into your day to day experience. The more you’re in tune with those feelings of confidence, the more confident you’ll feel.
