Today I’m grateful for the chance to do something that I can honestly say I’ve never done before – playing mechanic-mechanic with my nephew.
After arriving home from the game reserve, back to civilisation in Joburg, Daniel and I spent ages fixing his faulty motorbike, which mysteriously never seemed to get repaired. No matter what we did, we couldn’t find the problem. We found all sorts of tools for the job, but nothing helped. It seemed that actually fixing the problem was not in fact the purpose of the game. A lesson, as it were, that it’s not about the end goal, but that you enjoy the process. Being an aunty is a fun job, and one that I don’t get to enjoy very often, so I’m grateful for days like today, where I get to spend some with my nephew, playing make-believe.
