A little while ago, I ran a competition with Kathryn from Becoming You blog fame. Taryn Lock was the lucky winner and she won herself a Profile Picture photo shoot with me which included the hair and makeup being professionally styled by Kristine from Kruz 4 Makeup.
So today I thought I’d share some behind the scenes from Taryn’s shoot.
Behind the Scenes on a Profile Picture Headshot Photo Shoot
On her arrival, Taryn explained that she hadn’t done this kind of thing before – having her portrait done professionally, so she was more than a little nervous.
I had no doubt she would do an amazing job!
I left her in the very capable hands of Kristine who got to work on Taryn’s makeup and hair. This is one of the most important steps of having a professional portrait done. Not only because it emphasises the natural beauty of my clients, but because the process of having someone pamper and dote on them for over an hour, puts them at ease and generally calms their nerves.
After offering tea and coffee, I tend to leave the two of them to it, so that they can chit-chat, preen and allow my client to take her mind off of the fact that she’s about to be photographed by me.
By the time they’re done, I can see the transformation in her eyes – She’s smiling from the inside, she’s standing taller, and she’s ready to do the shoot. It’s like the hakka before a New Zealand Rugby match. It’s part of the routine, and an important one to help get the participants into the right frame of mind for the battle ahead.
Taryn did an amazing job – following my direction, doing the breathing exercises I told her and going to her ‘happy place’.
I love her final images – perfect for her to use for her NGO – Read to Rise which promotes literacy among the youth of South Africa. When she told me what her non-profit organisation does, it made me think of that adage:
You give, you get.
Taryn does so much to help little people with their reading, and she won this photo shoot which could possibly help her with her good cause. That’s good karma!
