Last month Jen contacted me for updated profile pictures for her social media profiles and her website. I could sense the trepidation in her emails – it clearly seemed more of a ‘have’ to-do, than a ‘want’ to-do.

I get that! I have the same feeling when it comes to a visit to the dentist.

If it’s not something you do everyday, it’s very easy to imagine how terrible, frightful, stressful and anxiety-ridden the experience is going to be. And then, once you’re on the other side, you realise it wasn’t that bad at all!

So when I first read Jen’s email about how she wasn’t really looking forward to the actual shoot, I knew it was time for my super-power!!

Explain what you do

I offer custom PR & marketing solutions to South African timber construction and supply SMEs.

Who’s your target market?

Small to medium businesses in the local timber construction and supply sector.

What problem of theirs do you solve?

I help my clients look good, stand out and communicate effectively in a complex and oftentimes economically tough market.

What makes your product/service/business different?

My background in construction trade publishing, post-graduate studies in English, a penchant for creative writing and an eye for good design all come together to position my business to offer a very necessary service (quality PR & marketing) to a very niche (timber construction & supply) market.

Why do you do what you do?

I have a deep appreciation for timber as a viable and sustainable product with which to build, a soft spot for the players in this market and a passion to see this sector gaining the recognition and exposure it so deserves. I am also a born writer, story-teller and know good design when I see it. Häss&DAS Brand Factory brings all of these together, so that work never really feels like work.

Why did you need a photo shoot?

I wanted professional photos as part of a personal branding exercise. To refine both my personal and professional online presence and to have great quality photos on hand for any future branding or marketing exercises for my business.

What was your expectation for the photo shoot?

Your communication with me upfront was very professional, friendly, and efficient, so I expected a similar experience in the physical environment you offered.

What was your overall experience of the actual photo shoot?

Both you and Kristine were just wonderful, patient and kind. Kristine was sensitive to how I feel/felt about my make-up and got it right first time, all while allowing me to sip away at my coffee and imparting her infinite wisdom on make-up application. (Still bummed I didn’t bring a notebook). And you were very sensitive to my likes/dislikes and eased me out of my shell with your sneaky tactics, even getting a trademark snort out of me (not many can say that). My experience of the shoot was what I expected and more. Thank you.

What was your expectation for your images?

Crisp, yet soft, professional but with a touch humanness. 100% delivered.
