I was introduced to Chereens’ blog by Chicara, a beauty blogger who I featured on my Tuesday Chats With… series in October.

So diligently, I popped on over to Chereen’s blog, For The Beauty Of It, to see what she was all about. Now to give you some quick context here, if I were a beauty blogger, my blog’s title would be – The Lazy Girl’s Guide To Beauty. Just so we’re clear.

…if I were a beauty blogger, my blog’s title would be – The Lazy Girl’s Guide To Beauty

So when I saw a post title on Chereen’s blog called “The 5 Minute Face“, I knew this was a girl who gets me!

I continued to follow and browse her blog and found her posts useful, inspiring and honest. A good combo, in my books!

On her about page, Chereen mentions “…all women want to look and feel fabulous.”

That’s exactly why I do what I do!

Clearly Chereen and I have some things in common!

She’s built an amazing blog, is carving out an exciting path for her life and her business, and she’s doing what she loves. And THAT is why Chereen is featured on today’s Tuesday Chats With…

1. Something that I’m…
…proud of…
my beautiful boy, Noah. Definitely my greatest masterpiece – ever! I still can’t quite believe that I GREW him, from scratch!
…desperate to do again…
go to Mauritius (this time with my husband and son!)
…trying to forget…
All the uncalled for criticisms that have come my way throughout my life. Constructive criticism is always welcome, but I’m talking more about the unnecessary, unkind comments. For example, a former employer once asked me how I could possibly claim to want to be the next Anna Wintour (yep, that was my goal when I was 22!), when I couldn’t even cut it as a junior features writer. Well, fast forward 6 years, a career as a beauty editor, and owning my own PR and social media agency… On second thoughts, perhaps it’s a good thing to keep those nasty comment in mind, as they help to spur you on (just don’t take them to heart!)
…about to change…
my son’s nappy! Ha!
2. Something I wish…
…I could try for the first time…
a Clarisonic Cleansing Brush! I’ve heard so much about them throughout my career in the beauty industry, so I’m thrilled that the Clarisonic is finally launching in SA in January 2015. Now I just need to save up for one…
…I could change…
is the fact that there are so many underprivileged, orphaned, abandoned or unloved children in the world. It breaks my heart every day. Same goes for animals.
…for on a daily basis…
continued health and happiness for my loved ones.
…people would…
show more kindness and compassion.
3. A lesson…
…I learned, which I’d share, is…
never say never, ESPECIALLY when it comes to parenting. I always said that I would NEVER allow my child to sleep in my bed, or even that I would breastfeed (the thought of it used to freak me out… until I had a baby). Funnily enough, I’m still breastfeeding almost two years on, and Noah’s toddler bed is in our bedroom (and he often crawls into our bed for cuddles and milkies).
…I wish someone had taught me, is…
how to fight fairly. It’s only really since I got married that I’ve learnt this skill… in fact, I’m still learning how to of this!
…I’m still learning, is…
how to relax! I find it very difficult to switch off, so I’ve been doing yoga and meditation to help quieten my mind. I also love indulging in long bubble baths, and I’d like to get back into journaling.
4. The ‘someone’ I…
…turn to for advice is…
My dad. Somehow, he just seems to have all the answers, whether I’m grappling with a business-related issue or a more personal problem.
…would return as, in a later life is…
a cat.
…would give my last Rolo to…
My husband, Sean (though, let’s face it: as the chocoholic in the family, I’d probably eat all mine and then finish his off, too. Oops!)
…would love to be stuck in an elevator with is…
My friend, Cathi. We never run out of things to talk about, and she has an amazing ability to calm me down in any situation.
…have been most inspired by…
on a professional level, I’d have to say Emily Schuman of ‘Cupcakes and Cashmere’. I adore her blog and what it stands for; her content is well thought out, original and engaging, and she’s always impossibly chic. Personally, I’d have to say my mom. She’s mothered five human beings, which I never thought very much of – until I had my own child. Now, she looks after my son during week while I work. I honestly don’t know how she does it; her patience and love is never-ending.
5. The place I …
…dream of visiting is…
New York!
…am most happy is…
at home, with nothing to do and nowhere to be, while surrounded with my family. I also LOVE the V&A Waterfront; it’s probably my most favourite place on earth.
6. Things that…
…inspire me…
Books, music, magazines, and other people.
…educate me…
YouTube! You can find anything – and everything! – on YouTube!
…entertain me…
magazines (it’s an obsession), my husband (he’s very funny), and Downton Abby.
…irritate/challenge me…
reckless drivers, feeling out of control, and when things don’t go according to plan.
7. Things that make me go…
…mmmmm….
chocolate and a good cappuccino.
…ooh la la…
Leonardo DiCaprio!
…yee haa!…
pay day!
…WTF?…
bad drivers.
…lol!…
My husband.
8. My reason for…
…getting up in the morning…
my son, Noah (also because his demands for porridge are hard to ignore!)
…smiling is…
my son, Noah (I’m sorry, I’m such a mom!)
…pursuing my passion is…
that feeling of complete and utter exhaustion that washes over you at the end of a very successful, productive day. I live for those moments.
9. My approach to…
…life is…
what will be, will be.
…business is…
always under-promise and over-deliver.
…fashion is…
forget following trends and wear what makes you feel good.
…health and beauty is…
everything in moderation!
10. My perfect….
…day starts with…
a cappuccino while browsing my favourite magazines and catching up on blogs in bed.
…client is…
one who trusts me to do what I do best, and someone who’s passionate about what they do.
…hobby is…
something quiet and introspective, like yoga or reading.
…movie role is…
Hmmm… probably a character that’s really dark and twisted, so that I can explore that side of life. Think Angelina Jolie in Girl, Interrupted.
