Meeting Chereen from For The Beauty Of It
I’d been quietly following her blog for some time, and when the idea for the campaign struck, it was a no-brainer that I’d reach out to her hoping that she’d take part.
Having never met Chereen before, I could tell from her writing that she is a sensitive and honest girl who shares a very personal side of herself through her blog. I’m always drawn to people who share themselves very authentically online. I feel that someone who is brave enough to make themselves vulnerable in such a public way are not only benefiting themselves (by reflecting on and journaling about their experiences, much like a form of therapy) but they are also benefitting their followers who are made to feel less isolated in their thoughts and feelings because there’s someone else going through similar issues who shares the same fears, concerns and anxieties.
It’s easy in the online world to see how ‘perfect’ everybody’s life looks and compare it to your own shoddy attempt at keeping it together on a day to day basis. So when people are real in their imperfection, I certainly sit up, listen and watch the ripple effect of togetherness that emanates from their efforts.
After the hype of the #CTConfidence campaign died down, I was beyond thrilled to receive an email from Chereen asking to book a shoot to update her profile pictures to coincide with her new hair colour & updated blog.
…After the #CTConfidence shoot, I have no doubt that I want YOU to take them 🙂
Connecting the Online Chereen with the Real-Life Chereen
I was so right about Chereen. And credit where credit is due. This girl is the real deal. She’s exactly as you would expect her to be if you’ve been following her blog for a while. She’s kind and sensitive, friendly and sweet. She reminds me of the character played by Hilary Swank in the movie PS. I love you. The kind of girl that I would want to have in my circle of friends. And the fact that she’s vegetarian, just nudges her further up the BFF list!
We had a lot of fun during the shoot, especially as Chereen was quite happy to experiment with different crops and props, like her massive coffee cup!
Before her #CTConfidence shoot, I had asked Chereen to complete a questionnaire relating to her self confidence and how she manages to keep it in check. Here’s what she shared:
On a scale of 1-10 how confident do you personally feel on an average day?
What’s your ‘go-to’ confidence boost when you need one?
Please specify your ‘go-to’ confidence boost
At the moment, Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way and the bible study I’m working on at the moment (Gideon by Patricia Shirer).
Which woman has inspired/influenced you most?
Other than the obvious one – my mom – I’d say Emily Shuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere, and Marie Forleo (both in terms of my blog and business).
Besides World Peace, what do you wish there was more of/ less of in the world?
I wish I could eliminate cruelty to animals and to people in general – especially children (though obviously EVERYBODY matters, I just think that children are more vulnerable and we have a certain responsibility towards them). My heart breaks when I hear stories of abandoned babies, children who have been kidnapped, child trafficking, etc. I recently became vegetarian and I’m sloooowly making the transition towards Veganism, because the realities of farming have also recently become apparent to me. Just my small way of trying to make the world a better place! In a nutshell, I just wish there was MORE LOVE, less ignorance – and that people are more willing to help others. It’s too easy to turn a blind eye!
What’s your usual response when you have your photo taken?
‘Get that camera away from me!’
