Last month I scheduled a play date with my friend and fellow photographer, Emma Weise from Fresh Sage.
And by play date, I mean photo shoot.
Emma had recently done a rebrand for her business and asked me to do her photos for her new look. Of course I jumped at the chance to photograph this gloriously colourful girl. Her smile is infectious and her energy is bubbly, so the shoot felt more like a playful chit chat session rather than a portrait session. Together we worked with props she’d brought with her to get the kinds of pics that depicted Emma in her natural habitat. I just love how the colours of the props complimented her clothing choice so perfectly.
I know that if I didn’t know Emma in real life, the friendliness, vibrancy and approachability of her photos would make me want to get in touch. Being the dynamic woman that she is, I asked Emma to share her thoughts on Confidence.See Emma’s Photos from her Shoot

What does confidence mean/look like to you
Being comfortable with who I am, and what my purpose is – helps me feel confident in what I should be going out into the world to do!
How do you deal with Criticism?
I have learnt to take a more top line view to criticism. I firstly evaluate where the criticism is coming from, if it’s based on the person’s own insecurities, and doesn’t feel like it’s a good fit for / reflection on me… then I take it as that [their issue]. But if it does resonate with me… then I look at criticism as an opportunity… an opportunity for me to up level, or for me to look at my processes… I take it as feedback that helps me be a better “me”
What’s your favourite quote/mantra/saying?
Learn from yesterday, Dream of tomorrow, but LIVE for today!
This has been an awesome reminder for me to get out of my own head, and rather LIVE for today [sometimes I spend a little too much time in yesterday + tomorrow] – but today is a special gift that I need to really enjoy to it’s full!
On a scale of 1-10 how confident do you personally feel on an average day?
Hmm… More often than not… I lean towards a 6.
What’s your ‘go-to’ confidence boost when you need one?
Never under estimate how a good jacket / pair of pants can make you feel.
Then… sometimes a little lick of lipstick does the trick
I love music – so that really helps my confidence
But… when I need a real confidence boost… then there is a prayer at the end of Marie Forleo’s interview with Marianne Williamson – that really helps to ground me, and centre me to my purpose, which is:
“We place in your hands our burdens, and our questions, and our responsibilities, We place in your hands our debts
and we place in your hands our assets, We place in your hands our fears about money and work, We place in your hands our visions, and our prayers and our hopes for money and work, and in this, and in all things dear God, we pray to be lifted to the highest level of divine order May we be who you would have us be, that we might do what you would have us do. May our work in the world dear God, be more than just a job, may it be a calling. As each of us now surrender ourselves, and ask that we be used by you that whatever we do, it be a conduit for the love that uplifts all things May the brilliance and the genius that is your spirit within us, move through us in collaboration with the genius moving through everyone else, to create the most beautiful world”
Oprah was my first inspirational influencer growing up
Then I was super attracted to Martha Stewart’s business savvy [minus the jail time]
Then, in more recent years… I have found that Elizabeth Gilbert [my latest Biz crush], Marie Forleo, Alexandra Franzen, and Melissa Cassera have all influenced me to a degree!
Besides World Peace, what do you wish there was more of/ less of in the world?
I wish that there were more people stepping into what they were called to do… living their AwesomeSauce, and rocking their purpose!
What’s your usual response when you have your photo taken?
It used to be “Grrr, get away from me!”
I’m getting better at it now 😉
